In a few short weeks spring will be upon us and that means it’s almost time for New Mexico BHA’s annual conservation campout out on the Kiowa National Grasslands. In our first two years we have made a huge impact on pronghorn habitat through our fence modification project (and had a good old time in the process), and we look forward to putting another big dent in the work this year.
This event is always centered around a Saturday workday to modify fencing to improve pronghorn migration. Participants show up Friday evening or early Saturday (April 1st this year), with a group potluck and year-in-review party following the workday. Sunday morning people can work a partial day, explore the Mills Canyon area on their own accord, or head for home. The event is usually also bookended by talks from our USFS partners and other activities. This event is kid friendly (with the supervision of a parent/guardian).
Put March 31st – April 2nd on your calendars and RSVP above if you’d like to come out with us.
Volunteer Perks!
Volunteers will be given one free meal on Saturday in addition to our Saturday night wild game potluck. Gas stipends from $50-$75 are available to help you reach the project site. Please email NMBHA Treasurer Lance Miller ([email protected]) to take advantage of this offer (while supplies last). All volunteers will also receive a Limited Edition cup! Camping is free and you'll get the chance to work alongside fellow public land owners and USFS staff.
