The BLM needs help removing a riparian protection fence in a grazing allotment in Belmont Meadows. Thanks to some successful stream restoration, the meadow has largely become a wetland and the fence is now submerged well within the footprint of the wetland area (that used to be dry land). We're looking for folks who don't mind getting wet to help pull T posts and wire on about ½ mile of fence. If possible, volunteers should bring waders (preferably old waders that you don't care about getting barbed wire holes in, BLM can provide several pairs).
Volunteers should plan to meet in the University Center (32 Campus Dr) parking lot at 8 AM. From there, we will caravan/carpool up to the project location (~1 hour from Missoula). We will meet at the project parking site (46.96308477954035, -113.5744169797996) around 9 AM and work in the open meadow just to the north. Work should only last ~2 hours and we'll aim to have folks back to Missoula by 1 PM at the latest.
Please dress for the weather and wear closed-toe shoes (bring old waders if you have them!). Pack snacks and water. Lunch will be provided.
