The Oklahoma Chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers is working with some fine folks in the Arkansas BHA Chapter to bring you a fantastic weekend event at Stunkard Public Access Area along the Illinois River on July 21-23!
There will be fantastic opportunities to join in conversations focused on conservation efforts locally, regionally, and nationally! We will have some awesome raffle prizes, fun competitions, fishing, family friendly activities, and free camping. This is an event that you can't miss!
We will kick the event off Friday with chapter leaders ready to meet and greet people starting at 9 am! Come early and set up camp as this facility is a first come first serve campground and we don't know how many sites we will be able to hold back (But don’t worry, there are some overflow sites only a mile down the road at Round Hollow so you can still join in on all the fun)! Sit back and enjoy conversations and welcome people as they arrive. Friday evening, jump on in and help out with a shoreline river cleanup! Let’s see how much trash we can bag!
We will be joined by Jared Skaggs, Recreation Director of GRDA, Ed Fite, the Water Quality Director from GRDA, and a biologist from the ODWC. These experienced representatives will help facilitate a great discussion about the Illinois River watershed projects that will assist in improving the waterway.
Friday evening, join us for a fun Wild Game Pot Luck dinner! We all know that everyone has a secret dish they enjoy sharing with others and this is a perfect time to show it off! If you want to enter a little friendly competition, join a few folks and enter your dish for a tasting competition!
Wake up Saturday with a little coffee and share some fun stories with folks around the campground! Then get prepped for a 6-mile fishing float trip down the Illinois River! Bring your secret lures as we will have another fun competition and see who can land the biggest fish! We highly recommend folks bring their own kayaks or canoes, but if you can’t, please contact Riverside Resort at 918-456-4787 to reserve your kayak/canoe!
Saturday night, we will wind down with BBQ and campfire stories, so the food is on us but come ready to share a great story or two. This will be an excellent opportunity to pick up some BHA merchandise and your last minute raffle tickets! The evening will complete a wonderful weekend with great friends and allow everyone to refresh their “why” in conservation and the outdoors!
