event_description: Join BHA PA June 11-13 for the third annual BHA Pennsylvania Wilds Trail Challenge. This year, we invite you to join us for a 38-mile, two night backpacking trip in the Quehanna Wild Area, one of the most remote areas of PA. The 80 square mile area, including parts of Elk, Cameron, and Clearfield Counties, was purchased in 1955 to provide a safe area to test nuclear powered jet engines. The project was discontinued 5 years later and the state purchased the land back in 1967 and added to the Moshannon and Elk State Forests. We will meet up at the Beaver Run Pond Wildlife Viewing Area parking lot at 5pm on 6/11. From there we will hike South through SGL 34 to catch the Quehanna trail.  We will then travel the Quehanna trail counter-clockwise. Expected mileages are 4 miles (parking to camp 1), 16miles (camp 1 to camp 2), 18.5miles (camp 2 back to parking area) for a total distance of 38.5miles. There are several ways to shorten the distance if desired. The goal is to be completed by 5pm on Sunday June 13th.Additional final camp locations and meeting spots will be emailed to registered participants prior to the hike. Alternatively, participants can choose to meet us at Camp 1 or Camp 2 and day hike the Saturday or Sunday sections. This event also coincides with BHAs Hike to Hunt Challenge. Details on H2H 2021 coming soon. RSVP today let us know you are coming!
