1st Annual Michigan Rendezvous


The Michigan chapter of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers is pleased to announce our 1 st annual Rendezvous! This Celebration of Michigan’s public land is scheduled for Sep. 22-24 and will be located at Buckley’s Mountainside Canoes in Mount Pleasant, MI.

In the First 18 months of our chapter’s existence we have grown exponentially and have begun to have our voices heard. Now it’s time to celebrate. Join us for this weekend of fun, education, and celebration of our public lands and waters.

Friday Sept, 22
3pm-7pm: Arrival and Registration
7pm – Bed: Campfire fun

Saturday Sept,23
7am: Hike to hunt
8am - 9am: Butchering a Deer | Jason Meekhof: Jason is the Chair of the Michigan BHA Chapter and has been processing his own game for 20+ years and placed 3rd and the BHA National Rendezvous Camp Chef cook off. He has also been featured on Up North Journal Podcast, Take Aim Podcast, The Hunting Dog Podcast, and Deer Hunter Podcast.

9am - 10am: Still-Hunting Public Land | Drew Youngdyke: Drew is the board secretary of the Michigan BHA Chapter, the Great Leaks Communications Coordinator for the National Wildlife Federation, a 2017 Train To Hunt National Finals Competitor in the Trad Bow division and a member of the Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers.

10am -5pm: vendor tent open

10am - 11am: Why you suck at Fly Fishing | Alex Cerveniak: Alex is the owner of Northern Michigan Fly Fishing Guide Service. He is a former editor at MidCurrent.com and Hatches Magazine. He is a freelance writer/photographer and has contributed to Drake, Fly Rod & Reel, Hatches Magazine, The Flyfish Journal and Michigan Trout among others. He is the President of the Headwaters Chapter of Trout Unlimited.

11am - 12PM: TBD | Mark Kenyon: Mark is the Founder and Full-Time Managing Editor of Wired To Hunt and the host of the industry-leading Wired to Hunt Podcast. Heralded as 'The New Media Star' by Outdoor Life Magazine and featured on their April 2015 cover. He was also named the Qaulity Deer Management Association Communicator of the Year in 2014. He has been published in Outdoor Life, Field & Stream, North American Whitetail Magazine, Deer & Deer Hunting Magazine, Quality Whitetails and Whitetail News. He is also a Quality Deer Management Association certified Deer Steward. He is also aboard member of the Michigan BHA Chapter.

9am - 5pm: floats on river (shuttle and kayak/canoe provided by Buckleys)

9am – 5pm: Livery games

10am -5pm: vendor tent open

5pm – 9pm: Pint night at Buckley’s

9pm – Bed: Campfire Fun

7am – 10am: Coffee Provided by Roaster Jacks
7am – 10: Clean up and head home

Cost: $30 for Saturday only or $40 for whole weekend (includes primitive camp site at Buckley’s) tickets can be purchased here
