BHA Responds to Zinke's Public Land Order

WASHINGTON – Following Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke’s signing late yesterday of a secretarial order expanding public access and hunting and fishing opportunities on U.S. public lands, Backcountry Hunters & Anglers President and CEO Land Tawney offered the following response:

“On his first day as Interior secretary, Mr. Zinke undertook quick action on behalf of our nation’s public lands, the outdoor opportunities they offer and the economic security they provide,” said Tawney. “Sportsmen appreciate Secretary Zinke’s responsiveness to our priorities and his evident understanding of the fact that without access to our public lands, citizens will have lost the greater part of what makes us who we are as Americans.”

“We look forward to helping Mr. Zinke carry forward this momentum by continuing to work to conserve important areas of habitat and advance strategies to increase public access, including legislative solutions like the HUNT Act and Making Public Lands Public,” continued Tawney. “Together we can ensure that our nation’s great outdoors legacy not only endures but thrives – and that our kids and grandkids will enjoy the same lands, waters and experiences that we do today.”
