The fourth annual Minnesota Backcountry Hunters & Anglers Rendezvous is scheduled for August 4–6, 2017. We’ll be setting up camp at a Group campsite in Wild River State Park on the St. Croix River (about 60 miles north of Minneapolis-St. Paul & 115 miles south of Duluth). Wild River State Park is located on the banks of the St. Croix River. It’s named “Wild River” because it was one of the rivers protected by Congress in the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act of 1968.
Directions: From I-35, take State Highway 95 to Almelund/County Road 12. Turn left on CR 12 and drive 3 miles to park entrance. See links below for additional information:

We’ll be in Primitive Group Area-Basic-A-GC1 (this is a walk-in site, with push carts also available, that is easily accessible from the Primitive Group Area parking. Campground Map. The event will begin as folks begin arriving Friday afternoon and evening, with an extended social hour and, weather permitting, a group campfire. If anyone is willing/able to haul in a load of community firewood (ensuring it’s DNR approved/pest-free), the contribution will be greatly appreciated.
Overall, this will be a relaxed, mostly unstructured “get acquainted” weekend, with a Saturday afternoon get-together and general membership meeting (starting at 4:00 p.m.) where we can exchange ideas, congrats, frustrations, etc. You’ll have plenty of time (if desired) to hike, fish or visit the North West Company Fur Post historical site (a living-history trading post, Ojibwe camp and museum operated by the Minnesota Historical Society) in nearby Pine City.
The Saturday afternoon meeting will be followed by a group wild game cookout, with MN BHA supplying sides, chips/dip, etc. Let MN BHA co-chair Erik Jensen know if you can bring/contribute some wild game. We’ll also pick up plates/utensils, but feel free to bring/supply your own.
