Colorado BHA’s 3rd Annual Wild Game Cook-off

Colorado BHA’s 3rd Annual Wild Game Cook-off was held on Friday, May 5, at Grossen Bart Brewery in Longmont. As explained by Cook-off leader/organizer, George Robinson: “We enjoyed a smorgasbord of delicious wild game dishes made from elk, deer, pheasant, turkey, goose and duck. We drank craft beer while talking conservation issues and rocking to some great blues music! This year the good folks at Crooked Wood Outfitters got to showcase their llamas in a corral in the parking lot. They were a fantastic stock that kept the kids quite entertained!”

Bryce Davies won the highly coveted raffle from Crooked Wood Outfitters: a 5 day/3 llama DIY hunt. Jeff Sandberg won the 1 day fish/float (on the “S.S. BHA”) with Colorado BHA Habitat Watch Volunteer Coordinator, Donald Holmstrom. Jeff’s wife, Paige, won the Wild Game Cook-off with her amazing rendition of Elk Stroganoff with homemade spatzle. General raffle prizes went out to lots of folks, including one month of Chiropractic care from hunter/angler (and new BHA member), Dr. Jacob Hall, hats & shirts from Rep Your Water, and coffee beans roasted by Carabiner Coffee Company.

George adds: “We had a showing of about 70 folks. I am also proud to announce we raised $1,400 from the event! Thanks again to all who attended, volunteered, sponsored, and shared their delicious quarry!!” Colorado BHA chairman, David Lien, said: “George and his outstanding team of volunteers—along with all the sponsors and others who donated hunts, floats, wild game, and swag—are the heart and soul of BHA! And their enthusiasm and dedication is representative of the innate selflessness hard-baked into BHA’s rapidly growing army of boots-on-the-ground hunter/angler-conservationists across the country. We need many more like them!!”
